Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe and former host Chris Harrison are sharing behind-the-scenes details from her time with The Bachelor franchise.
During the Thursday, July 31, episode of Kaitlyn’s “Off the Vine” podcast, Kaitlyn and Chris, 54, covered a series of moments from season 11 of The Bachelorette, including the moment when he read a series of mean tweets about her on her Women Tell All special.
“You need to unspread your whore legs,” Chris read at the time, which the pair laughed about on the podcast. “I was seeing words on TV that I know I shouldn’t have said,” Chris recalled on Thursday, while Kaitlyn explained that she gave her approval to read the messages.
Kaitlyn served as the lead of the series in 2015, where she ultimately accepted a proposal from Shawn Booth. The pair were together for three years before calling off their engagement in 2018.
Kaitlyn Bristowe and Nick Viall’s Messy Relationship Timeline
While looking back at her time on the series, Chris asked Kaitlyn who she would “hook up” with from the show now — making it a game like who she would want to hypothetically have a “romp in the hay” with and another person she would want to marry.
“We’re pretending they are all single,” Kaitlyn noted, while Chris explained that there’s not a “kill” option because he knew who she would target. “Do you, though? Things have changed,” Kaitlyn replied.
“A little romp in the hay? Honestly, it would probably be either Jared [Haibon] because I never got to hit that, or Shawn because it was good,” Kaitlyn said. “Let’s go with Jared, if he was single. Marry? Probably Jared too. Or Ben Higgins. … OK, I would romp with Jared and marry Ben.”
One contestant who Kaitlyn didn’t mention? Nick Viall, who made his Bachelor Nation debut on Andi Dorfman’s season 10 of The Bachelorette before returning to vie for Kaitlyn’s affections. Kaitlyn and Nick, 44, admitted to having sex before their fantasy suite date — where they would have off-camera time alone.
Kaitlyn Bristowe Reveals Run-ins With Shawn, Says Producers ‘Sexualized’ Nick
“What was that like behind the scenes when I had sex — it was this whole thing, I had to talk about it — what was that like behind the scenes for all of you guys?” Kaitlyn asked Chris on Thursday, who replied, “We knew it was going to happen. I mean, I say that not knowing — you’re a woman of free will and made your own choice — but it was kind of like you put a bowl of M&M’s and someone’s going to start nibbling on them.”
Kaitlyn added, “And if anyone is going to nibble, it’s Kaitlyn. I still love how everything went down. … We can have so much love for the show and it could also have done some damage and be evil. I look back on that and I’m like, ‘I wouldn’t have done it any different.’”
Chris joked that the moment led him to have a talk with his daughter, Taylor, about being intimate. (Chris shares Taylor, 21, and son Joshua, 23, with ex-wife Gwen Harrison. He is currently married to Lauren Zima.)
“I remember talking to her about your moment with Nick and the whole thing. We had these long talks,” Chris said, to which Kaitlyn quipped, “I was the reason you had the birds and the bees convo with Taylor, dear God.” Chris admitted, “Thank you for the sex talk.”
Chris noted that it’s possible Nick didn’t come onto the show for the right reasons — a.k.a he wanted his “15 minutes” of fame after his time on Andi’s season — but ultimately fell in love with Kaitlyn.
“I think he was good at falling in love. I think he did convince himself that that was real, like he did with Andi,” Chris explained. “It turned out to be phenomenal TV.”
Following Bristowe’s split from Booth, she moved on with Bachelor Nation alum Jason Tartick, with whom she got engaged in 2021. The twosome split two years later.
