A woman has been arrested on suspicion of concealing a birth, neglect, and infanticide following the tragic discovery of a newborn baby boy’s body outside a church in London.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the woman, believed to be in her 30s, was taken to a hospital to receive necessary medical care. She remains hospitalized as authorities continue their investigation.
The infant’s body was found inside a black Marks & Spencer bag by a council refuse worker outside All Saints’ Church, located off Talbot Road in Notting Hill, at approximately 12:46 p.m. on Tuesday.
Scotland Yard has announced that a forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted later this week. Detectives remain “open-minded” about the circumstances leading to the baby’s death.
Superintendent Owen Renowden, who oversees policing in Kensington and Chelsea, emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation while ensuring the well-being of all involved.
“We believe that the woman is the baby’s mother, and I am reassured that she is receiving the support she needs, while officers continue their work to understand what took place,” he stated.
Acknowledging public concern over the case, Renowden urged people to refrain from speculation. “I appreciate the high level of attention that this investigation has received, but we politely ask for the public not to speculate.”
Authorities continue to gather evidence as the community awaits further updates on this heartbreaking case.
