Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has made a remarkable revelation, asserting that he remains a devoted member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even while serving within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.
Speaking on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ show, Wike elaborated on this stance during a recent interview. He emphasized that his affiliation with the PDP is unwavering and that he collaborates with President Bola Tinubu to advance the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
In a resolute tone, Wike clarified, “Governance transcends party lines; a party is merely the vehicle. I stand as a distinct PDP member, committed to my beliefs.”
The Minister also disclosed a significant detail – PDP governors nominated individuals aligned with them for appointments within the APC government at the federal level.
Wike went on to emphasize that he obtained PDP’s consent before accepting the APC’s ministerial appointment. He noted that he specifically communicated with the PDP leadership at the South-South zonal and Rivers State levels, both of which granted him permission to assume the ministerial role.
In an assertive challenge to the PDP’s national leadership, Wike questioned the possibility of his expulsion due to his chosen affiliations and actions. He boldly stated, “Who can contemplate expelling me? I challenge anyone to suspend me.”
Regarding his dual appointments as a member of the Campaign Council for the upcoming Bayelsa State governorship election, nominated by both the APC and PDP, Wike interpreted the situation as a testament to his political significance. He did, however, mention that the PDP neglected to consult him before including his name in the campaign council list.
Wike added that for him to collaborate with the PDP in the Bayelsa election, the party must issue apologies to him and some of his colleagues.
