The remains of Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Kayode Laro, arrived in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday, for burial.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq received the body of the diplomat at General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, supported by other dignitaries and the bereaved family.
The body of the diplomat was flown in with a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jet, draped in the national colours as a mark of honour for his service to the country.
AbdulRazaq also attended the burial at the deceased’s family compound in Ilorin. The burial rites were led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Soliu.
Dignitaries in attendance include Nigeria’s Ambassador to France superintending Economic and Consular Affairs, Muazam Nayaya; Deputy Head of Mission (France), Ambassador Tunde Mustapha; Kwara House of Assembly Speaker, Yakubu Salihu, and other principal officers. The AbdulRazaq family was led to the event by the governor’s elder brother, the Mutawalle Ilorin, Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq.
The governor, in his condolence message, described his death as devastating, and prayed Allah to forgive and grant him al-jannah firdaus.
Mustapha told reporters after the burial that the late Laro was a complete gentleman and a diplomat par excellence.
He prayed to Allah to console the family he left behind and grant his soul repose.
