Abigail Jo Shry, a resident of Alvin, Texas, has been apprehended and charged with making death threats against a Jamaican-born US federal judge overseeing the criminal case involving former President Donald Trump in Washington, as well as a member of Congress.
According to court records, on August 5, Shry contacted the federal courthouse in Washington and left a threatening voicemail using a derogatory term aimed at US District Judge Tanya Chutkan. Subsequent investigations traced the call back to Shry’s phone number. She later confessed to making the menacing call, as stated in a criminal complaint.
In the disturbing message, Shry allegedly stated to Judge Chutkan, who presides over the election conspiracy case involving Trump, “You are in our sights, we want to kill you.” Prosecutors also assert that Shry made threats towards US Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Texas Democrat pursuing the position of mayor of Houston, stating, “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you.” These details emerge from court documents.
Following a recent court ruling, Shry has been remanded to custody. Records indicate that she is being represented by the Houston public defender’s office, which has not responded to inquiries seeking comment.
Former President Trump has previously criticized Judge Chutkan, nominated to the bench by President Barack Obama, branding her “highly partisan” and “VERY BIASED & UNFAIR!” due to her past remarks in a separate case related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol.
During a recent hearing, Judge Chutkan imposed a protective order, regulating the public disclosure of evidence presented by prosecutors to Trump and his legal team. She advised Trump’s lawyers that their defense should be conducted within the confines of the courtroom, cautioning against resorting to online platforms.
