The National Assembly is witnessing a heated session as lawmakers engage in a spirited debate concerning the screening of Festus Keyamo, SAN, a nominee for a ministerial position. Keyamo, a former Minister of State for Labour and Employment in the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, took the stand before the Senate in pursuit of confirmation for his new role.
However, the proceedings took an unexpected turn as Darlington Nwokocha (LP Abia Central) intervened, putting forth a motion to halt the ongoing screening of the nominee. Nwokocha cited Keyamo’s previous confrontations with lawmakers from both chambers during his time as a minister, highlighting his alleged disrespect.
The motion found support from Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA Abia South), who seconded the call for the suspension of the screening. The incident has prompted the legislators to convene a closed-door session to address the matter further.
