Sir Siminalayi Fubara pledges to investigate past governance as he inaugurates Dagogo Israel Iboroma as Attorney-General.

Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has announced plans to establish a judicial panel of inquiry to scrutinize the governance of the state before his tenure, commencing May 29, 2023. This declaration came during the swearing-in ceremony of Mr Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of the State at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday.

In his address, Governor Fubara emphasized the critical need for legal expertise to confront numerous impending legal challenges with fortitude. While not specifying the scope of the inquiry, he affirmed the intention to delve into past administrations’ affairs, leaving open the possibility of investigating the immediate-past administration of Governor Nyesom Wike or others since 1999.

Governor Fubara, addressing Iboroma directly, stated, “So, my brother, Dagogo Iboroma, you are going to be the brand new Attorney-General of our dear State…We believe that you are not going to be the one that when they send service to you, you go and file ‘nolle prosequi’ or you go and file one thing that would kill us here.”

He further underscored the significance of Iboroma’s role, urging him to defend the state with his clean record, gentlemanly demeanor, and reverence for peace. Fubara expressed regret over the ongoing political discord within the state, acknowledging the absence of an amicable resolution.

“When I said that I had a reason for being patient, it is because I know that we are all from one family…But it has become very clear that this disagreement, there is no way to resolve it amicably,” Fubara lamented.

Taking a critical stance against the previous Attorney-General, Professor Zaccheaus Adangor, Governor Fubara criticized his alleged involvement in undermining the administration. He contrasted Adangor’s conduct with Iboroma’s integrity and professionalism, emphasizing the importance of ethical conduct in public service.

“It is good that you were already a SAN before your appointment. This means that you’re a very thorough lawyer and has earned your appointment…When you become a SAN, the only thing you will do is to sabotage government,” Fubara remarked, directed at Adangor.

Fubara reaffirmed his conviction in divine providence, dismissing criticisms of his elevation to the governorship and reiterating his commitment to advancing the state’s interests.
