Princess Kate Middleton has announced she is in remission after completing chemotherapy treatments for cancer last year. The royal shared the news in an Instagram post on January 14, expressing gratitude to The Royal Marsden Hospital for their exceptional care during her battle with the illness.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” Princess Kate wrote.
Acknowledging the support she received from her loved ones and medical team, the princess continued, “My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient have been exceptional.”
Princess Kate also reflected on her new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, emphasizing her commitment to advancing cancer research and patient care. “My hope is that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”
The princess revealed her relief at being in remission but acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to life after cancer treatment. “It is a relief to now be in remission,” she shared. “And I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”
She expressed optimism for the future, saying, “I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
Public Appearance at The Royal Marsden Hospital
In her first public outing since sharing her diagnosis, Princess Kate visited The Royal Marsden Hospital alongside Prince William earlier this month. The visit was a poignant moment as the couple met with staff and patients undergoing treatment.
During conversations with patients and medical professionals, Kate spoke candidly about the physical and emotional toll of cancer treatments. “You think treatment’s finished, crack on with that … daily tasks, but that’s still like a real challenge,” she remarked.
She also highlighted the importance of holistic care for patients and their families, noting, “It’s sometimes for the loved ones around us. They need support just as much as I did as the patient.”
In a conversation with a current patient, the princess commended their resilience, stating, “The resilience you need to get through, first of all, a small taster of what you’ve gone through … It’s to keep coming back … to be as positive as you are.”
Commitment to Cancer Advocacy
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace emphasized that Princess Kate’s visit to The Royal Marsden was not only to thank the hospital’s staff but also to shine a spotlight on their world-leading care and treatment.
As Joint Patron, Princess Kate aims to leverage her platform to support cancer research and improve the lives of those affected by the disease. Her courage and openness about her journey serve as an inspiration to many, reinforcing the importance of community, care, and resilience in the fight against cancer.
