In a significant move aligned with his Renewed Hope agenda, President Bola Tinubu has authorized the nomination of Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the prospective Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Cardoso’s tenure, initially spanning five years, awaits confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
This decision adheres to Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which entrusts the President of Nigeria with the prerogative to appoint the CBN Governor and four Deputy Governors, contingent on Senate confirmation.
President Tinubu has also sanctioned the appointment of four new Deputy Governors for the CBN, each designated for a five-year term, subject to Senate approval. The nominees include:
