D’Tigress of Nigeria, the four-time African Champions of FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, have returned home from the 2023 Afrobasket Tournament held in Kigali, Rwanda. The team landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday via an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, led by Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye, Director of the Federation, Elites, and Athletes Department (FEAD), warmly welcomed the team.
Having maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament, D’Tigress emerged victorious in the final stage by defeating the Taranga Lioness of Senegal. This victory secured them the prestigious Gold Medal at the GK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, on Saturday.
Later this Sunday, the team, under the guidance of Rena Wakama, will be honored with a light reception by the Ministry to celebrate their remarkable achievement.
