Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s Unusual Move: Lobbying President Tinubu to Influence Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Appeal Court Case

October 22, 2023

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is allegedly taking steps to influence the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the Kogi Central senatorial election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mrs. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

According to sources, Governor Bello has sent first-class traditional rulers from Kogi State to meet with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja in an attempt to sway the presidency’s influence and block the confirmation of Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner declared by the tribunal.

The governor reportedly brought six prominent monarchs (Ohi) from his Kogi Central district, including Ohi of Adavi, Okengwe, Okene, Ihima, Eika, and Eganyi, along with influential figures from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to meet with Tinubu.

These figures have been in Abuja for the past three days, striving to convince the President to influence the Court of Appeal’s decision in favor of Bello’s chosen candidate. Their alleged goal is to persuade the President that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s victory in the Appeal Court could jeopardize the APC’s prospects in the upcoming November governorship election in Kogi State.

Governor Bello is said to have mobilized these first-class chiefs from Kogi State to meet with Tinubu, aiming to delay Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s appeal victory. This is due to the fact that Natasha hails from the same district as Governor Bello and the APC governorship candidate, and a victory for her and the PDP could pose a challenge to the APC’s chances on November 11th.

Despite their efforts, the President has not yet granted them an audience. It is worth noting that the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal had previously declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the authentic winner of the election.

Furthermore, Governor Bello is expected to visit Abuja to meet with President Tinubu after the monarchs’ visit. He is currently in Anyingba and is awaiting confirmation of his appointment with the President before heading to Abuja.
