In a swift turn of events, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has overturned the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, imposed by some ward leaders. The decision was announced after the state working committee of the party sanctioned the ward leaders for their actions.
The controversy stemmed from the suspension of Ganduje by leaders in his ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government earlier this week. However, the party’s local government officials moved swiftly to nullify the suspension and take action against those responsible.
Speaking to reporters, APC Dawakin Tofa Local Government chairman, Inusa Dawanau, revealed that those behind Ganduje’s suspension were engaged in anti-party activities, with evidence of meetings with opposition figures coming to light.
Confirming the sanction against the erring ward leaders, the state working committee of the APC stated that a special investigations panel has been established to probe various allegations against them.
Abdullahi Abbas, the Kano APC chairman, emphasized the gravity of the situation, citing evidence of meetings between state government officials and the individuals involved in the suspension of the national chairman. “We have evidence of meetings between the state government officials and those that suspended the National Chairman,” Abbas stated. “The state working committee has agreed to sanction them for six months, and they stand now suspended.”
However, one of the accused party members, Halliru Gwanjo, defended the decision to suspend Ganduje, attributing it to allegations leveled against the national chairman by the Kano state government regarding bribery.
The developments highlight the internal strife within the APC in Kano State and the efforts by the party leadership to maintain unity amidst disagreements and allegations.
