Richard Simmons, the beloved fitness icon famous for his “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” workout videos, has died at the age of 76. His death was confirmed by his representative, as well as two law enforcement sources.
Simmons, who just celebrated his 76th birthday on Friday, expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of birthday wishes on his Facebook page. “I never got so many messages about my birthday in my life!” he wrote.
An LAPD spokesperson informed Fox News Digital that officers responded to Simmons’ home for a death investigation, which was completed at 10 a.m. this morning.
The former fitness coach, who had stepped away from the public eye a decade ago, recently shared his thoughts on life and his health challenges. In an interview with People magazine, Simmons revealed he was “grateful” to be “alive for another day” following his skin cancer diagnosis. Despite his condition, he remained positive and planned to celebrate his birthday in a unique way. “But the candle will probably be on a zucchini. You know, I’m a vegetarian,” he said with his characteristic humor.
“I am grateful that I’m here, that I am alive for another day,” Simmons continued. “I’ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.”
In March, Simmons disclosed to his followers on Facebook that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer. He detailed the moment he received the diagnosis and the subsequent procedure he underwent to remove the cancer cells.
Richard Simmons’ legacy extends beyond his energetic workout videos. He was a beacon of positivity and motivation for countless individuals striving to lead healthier lives. His enthusiastic spirit and dedication to helping others will be remembered and cherished by fans around the world.
