First Lady Remi Tinubu Condemns Indecent Dressing Among Young Nigerian Girls

In a recently released video, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, issued a stern warning to young Nigerian girls about the importance of modesty in their attire, emphasizing that nakedness is not acceptable in Nigerian culture. This message was conveyed through a video shared on social media platform X by Arise TV on Saturday, May 25.

Addressing the growing trend of revealing fashion among young women, Tinubu stressed the need to preserve cultural values and self-respect. “The message here is, we have to salvage our children. We see the way they dress; they keep forgetting that Nigeria, we are beautiful,” she remarked. “The moment you can see what they showcase on the screen, I say we’re fashionable. We see what is going on.”

Drawing a contrast with international fashion events, Tinubu pointed out the disparity between male and female attire. “We are not having a MET gala, and everyone, their nakedness is just everywhere, and the men are well clothed,” she observed. This comparison was used to highlight the influence of global trends that may not align with Nigerian cultural values.

Tinubu’s plea is part of a broader initiative to encourage young Nigerians to embrace their cultural heritage and maintain a sense of dignity in their appearance. “We have to do something. Tell them the way it is, we don’t accept nakedness in our culture,” she asserted. “That is not beautiful, and they are all beautiful girls, but they should be confident in who they are.”

Her statements reflect a growing concern among Nigerian leaders about the impact of Western fashion and media on the youth. “We know who we are and don’t lose who you are,” Tinubu concluded, urging young girls to take pride in their cultural identity and resist the pressure to conform to revealing fashion trends.

The video has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many supporting the First Lady’s call for a return to traditional values, while others debate the balance between cultural preservation and personal freedom.
