The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has vehemently refuted recent claims circulating in certain media outlets regarding a purported list of ex-governors under investigation for corruption. In a statement issued by Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity at EFCC, the commission disassociated itself from what it terms as a “false and mischievous” list.
The alleged list, titled “EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion,” has been labeled by EFCC as a fabrication with motives known only to its authors. The commission clarified that it neither released such a list nor engaged in discussions regarding the investigation of ex-governors with any media outlet.
“This invariably means that the so-called list is a disingenuous fabrication designed to achieve motives known only to the authors,” emphasized EFCC in its statement.
The commission urged the public to disregard the misleading report, emphasizing its falsity and potential to mislead. Additionally, EFCC advised media outlets to verify information related to ongoing investigations with the commission directly to prevent the dissemination of inaccurate reports.
