Hundreds of mourners gathered today to honor the memory of Daniel Anjorin, the 14-year-old tragically killed in the recent Hainault rampage. The somber event, held in the Hainault Underground Station car park, saw tears streaming down the faces of attendees as they paid tribute to the young victim.
One mourner, a close friend of Daniel’s family, emotionally addressed the crowd, recalling Daniel’s exemplary character and dedication to his studies, church, and beloved Arsenal football club. “He never did anything wrong,” the young boy shared. “He focused on school and got good grades, he went to church every day and he loved Arsenal.”
Former policeman Leroy Logan also spoke, emphasizing the need for solidarity and action against knife crime. “Knife crime has not been dealt with for many years,” Logan asserted. “They’re trying to stop and search their way out of the problem. They’re stereotyping and allowing it to terrorize communities.”
Grace, a mother whose son was classmates with Daniel’s younger brother, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. “My heart goes out to the family. We’re off here, we love you,” she expressed.
The anguish and shock reverberated through the community as Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, 36, faced accusations of murdering Daniel and injuring four others, including hero dad Henry De Los Rios Polania. Daniel’s family, in a poignant statement, described him as “the most loved and amazing son,” struggling to come to terms with their devastating loss.
Amidst the sorrow, gestures of solidarity emerged, with Arsenal fans paying tribute to Daniel during a match at the Emirates stadium, holding up a massive red banner reading “RIP Daniel” in the 14th minute.
Tributes poured in for Daniel, described as a bright and kind-hearted youth who excelled in academics and shared a passion for football. Musician Femi Koleoso, a leader in Daniel’s youth group, expressed the profound pain felt by the community, extending prayers and support to the grieving family.
Monzo, the alleged perpetrator, appeared in court facing charges of murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page launched for Daniel’s older brother garnered overwhelming support, raising more than £130,000.
The bravery of hero dad Henry, who protected his family during the attack, shone through as he expressed gratitude for the support received during his recovery. His sister hailed him as a hero, recounting the terrifying ordeal and the family’s struggle to cope with the trauma.
