Atlanta Gospel Group The Nelons Lose Members in Tragic Wyoming Plane Crash

The gospel music community is in mourning after three members of the renowned Atlanta-based group, The Nelons, perished in a fatal plane crash near Gillette, Wyoming, on Friday. The group was traveling to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise in Alaska at the time of the accident.

In a statement from Gaither Music Management Group, the victims were identified as Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, Amber and Nathan Kistler, and their assistant, Melodi Hodges. The pilot, Larry Haynie, and his wife, Melissa, also lost their lives in the crash.

“As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday,” said Autumn Nelon Streetman, daughter of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark. “Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days.”

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that a Pilatus PC-12/47E aircraft impacted terrain at approximately 1:04 p.m. MDT on Friday. The full details of the crash are still being investigated.

“It is very early in the investigation, and not much information is available at this time,” stated Keith Holloway, NTSB Media Relations Specialist. “The NTSB team is expected to be on scene today to begin documenting the site and examining the aircraft.”

The investigation will focus on various factors, including the pilot’s credentials, the aircraft’s maintenance records, and the environmental conditions at the time of the crash. Once the wreckage is accessible, it will be transported to a secure facility for further analysis.

Witnesses or anyone with pertinent information regarding the crash are urged to contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov.

The Nelons, known for their rich harmonies and inspirational music, have been a staple in the gospel music scene for decades. The loss of these talented individuals is a significant blow to the community, and their legacy will undoubtedly be remembered by fans and fellow musicians alike.
