Police in Anambra state have rescued an elderly woman who was subjected to cruel treatment by her own daughter in Umudunu village, Abagana. The arrest was made after a viral video brought the incident to light, leading to an investigation by the Abagana Division.

According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, it was revealed that the suspect, Ukamaka Udeugbo, is the biological daughter of the victim. Udeugbo repeatedly flogged the naked elderly woman and poured buckets of water on her while she was on the floor. She has since been arrested and detained for prosecution.

In another operation, the police intercepted an armed robbery gang in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area. The gang had snatched a tricycle from its owner in Agu-Awka. Acting on information provided by the police in Awka, the police and local vigilante laid an ambush and apprehended the robbers.

The police recovered two pistols (one Beretta and one locally-made chief revolver pistol), 12 rounds of live ammunition, one expended ammunition, and the stolen tricycle from the three-man gang. The arrested suspects, Ebuka Madu, Chinedu Godwin, and Udegbunam Chikezie, have been taken into custody.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has directed that the robbery case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for possible arraignment. Regarding the elderly woman, the CP has instructed that she be handed over to the State Commissioner for Women Affairs to ensure her adequate care by the state government.

These operations highlight the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to maintaining law and order in the state and protecting vulnerable members of the community.
