In a world recently shaken by the resumption of hostilities between Israel and Palestine, African leaders are finding themselves at a crossroads. As the conflict escalates, nations across the continent are grappling with divided sentiments and are calling for peace.

While some African countries have yet to make official statements regarding the crisis, those who have spoken out find themselves torn between sympathy for Palestinians living under Israeli occupation and condemnation of Hamas’ surprise rocket attacks.

Algeria🇩🇿 has taken a firm stance, strongly condemning what it calls “brutal air strikes” by Israeli forces in Gaza, expressing concern for the many casualties, including children and women.

Tunisia🇹🇳 has declared “full and unconditional” solidarity with the Palestinian people, urging the international community to intervene and stop what it labels as Israel’s “barbaric attacks” against Palestinians.

On the other hand, Kenya🇰🇪 stands with Israel, condemning terrorism and advocating for de-escalation to prevent further harm to innocent civilians.

Democratic Republic of the Congo🇨🇩 expresses solidarity with Israel and extends condolences to the victims. They emphasize unity in the fight against terrorism.

Morocco🇲🇦, deeply concerned about the situation, condemns attacks on civilians wherever they occur.

Egypt🇪🇬, a nation with a pivotal role in the region, appeals for restraint from both sides, acknowledging the volatile nature of the conflict.

South Africa🇿🇦, known for its historical support of Palestine, expresses grave concern and calls for an immediate cessation of violence, emphasizing the need for peace.

In contrast, Nigeria and Uganda take a more neutral stance. Uganda🇺🇬 calls for a two-state solution and condemns the targeting of civilians by both sides, emphasizing the need for peace.

Nigeria🇳🇬 is deeply concerned about the hostilities and calls for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution through dialogue.

Overall, the majority of African countries are approaching this complex issue with caution, aware of the potential for further escalation and the far-reaching consequences of the Israel-Palestine conflict.
