A Utah man who had allegedly made threats against President Joe Biden was fatally shot by FBI agents shortly before the president’s scheduled visit to the state on Wednesday, as stated by authorities.

According to the FBI’s statement, special agents were attempting to execute a warrant at the residence of Craig Deleeuw Robertson in Provo, located south of Salt Lake City, when the shooting took place at 6:15 a.m.

In online posts made on Monday, Robertson had reportedly mentioned Biden’s upcoming visit to Utah and expressed plans to retrieve a camouflage suit and clean a “m24 sniper rifle,” as detailed in court documents.

Identifying himself as a “MAGA Trumper,” a term associated with former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan, Robertson’s social media posts revealed his ownership of a long-range sniper rifle, various other weapons, and a “ghillie suit,” a type of camouflage gear, according to investigators’ statements included in court records. Robertson faced three felony counts, including making threats against the president, as per sealed court documents issued on Tuesday.

In addition to targeting President Biden, Robertson’s online posts referenced a “presidential assassination” and threats aimed at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, as indicated in court documents.

One of his Facebook posts from September 2022 allegedly stated, “The time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala!!!” It was not immediately clear whether Robertson had legal representation, as no attorney was listed in the available court documents.
