In a surprising twist, a massive $2 billion “Americana-themed” amusement park is gearing up to open its doors in 2026, and it’s far from the typical theme park hotspots. The American Heartland Theme Park and Resort, set to rival the size of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida or Disneyland in California, will be located on a 1,000-acre property in the heart of northeast Oklahoma, just off Route 66.

Oklahoma State Rep. Rusty Cornwell expressed excitement about the project in a press release, stating that the development, strategically positioned on historic Route 66 west of Grand Lake, will attract visitors from all over the globe to experience and celebrate America’s rich cultures and core values.

The vision for the park encompasses classic amusement rides, captivating live shows, family-friendly attractions, waterways, and an array of restaurants that will together create an immersive “Americana-themed environment.”

The choice of Oklahoma as the park’s location was based on the state’s business-friendly approach and innovative partnership efforts, as highlighted by American Heartland CEO Larry Wilhite. He expressed enthusiasm about making Oklahoma the home of the ambitious theme park and resort, stating that the state’s central position in the heartland makes it an appealing destination for a family entertainment venture.

Designed by a team featuring over 20 former Disney Parks builders and Walt Disney Imagineers, the 125-acre theme park will be divided into six distinct regions, each representing different aspects of “the American story.”

Visitors to the park will have the option of staying in a 300-room hotel currently in development or a large-scale RV park capable of accommodating 750 RV spaces and 300 cabins with modern amenities. The Three Ponies RV Park and Campground, sprawling across 320 acres, will become the largest campground in the central U.S.

This substantial $2 billion investment in the project is expected to generate approximately 4,000 jobs, and the tourism impact on Oklahoma is predicted to be considerable. American Heartland estimates that the park and resort will welcome over 4.9 million guests annually to the state.

The development will unfold in phases, with the RV park and cabins slated to open in spring 2025, followed by the grand opening of the theme park and resort in 2026.

This news, reported by People magazine, promises to bring a unique and extraordinary destination to the heart of America, redefining the theme park experience for visitors and locals alike.
