Three former Tennessee pitchers make MLB starts on same day

Three former Tennessee baseball pitchers made MLB starts Sunday.

Boston (46-45) completed a three-game sweep against the Nationals (37-53). The Red Sox won the series finale, 6-4, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Garrett Crochet (9-4) started for Boston, earning his ninth win and 151st strikeout of the season. He pitched five innings and recorded seven strikeouts. Crochet allowed nine hits, two runs (two earned) and two walks. The former Vol totaled 98 pitches (63 strikes) against 26 batters. 18 were first-pitch strikes for Crochet.

Philadelphia (53-37) defeated Cincinnati (46-44), 3-1, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Phillies won the series, 2-1.

Chase Burns made his third MLB appearance and start for the Reds. He pitched 4.2 innings and recorded seven strikeouts, while allowing two hits, one run (one earned) and four walks. Burns totaled 91 pitches, including 52 strikes, against 19 batters.

Chase Dollander started for Colorado (21-69) and pitched 3.2 innings against the White Sox (30-60). He totaled two strikeouts and 92 pitches (50 strikes) against 19 batters. Dollander allowed five hits, three runs (three earned) and four walks against Chicago.

The Rockies avoided a three-game sweep with a, 6-4, win at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. Former Vol Seth Halvorsen earned his eighth save of the season on Sunday. He pitched one inning and allowed one walk. Halvorsen totaled 12 pitches, including six strikes, against four batters in the ninth inning.
