Texas A&M (22-5, 5-4 SEC) continued its undefeated streak in midweek games after defeating Sam Houston 16-2 on Tuesday night, and after sweeping Missouri on the road, scoring 39 runs, and hitting nearly .400 at the plate, the Aggies’ offense has looked the part, while junior outfielder Caden Sorrell has been added to the midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list after hitting his 14th home run on Sunday.
Starting Thursday night, the Aggies will host Vanderbilt (18-12, 5-4 SEC) for the first of two consecutive home series, needing to capitalize on playing in Blue Bell Park and keep the momentum going before hosting the No. 2 Texas Longhorns next weekend.
The Commodores have had a similar start to conference play, winning an early road series vs. LSU before being swept by Mississippi State, while sweeping Tennessee at home last weekend, winning by just one run in all three games. On paper, Texas A&M‘s offense should be able to find success against Vanderbilt’s pitching staff, which includes ten pitchers with ERAs over 4.
However, after it was announced that pitcher MJ Bollinger would re-enter the transfer portal, Texas A&M’s mound depth will continue to be tested for the rest of the season. Still, if starters Shane Sdao, Weston Moss, and Aiden Sims can continue to last five or six innings, the Aggie offense should be able to come through and seal the deal.
