With just one regular-season game remaining, time is running out for Kam Williams and Jayden Quaintance to play again this season.
During his Wednesday radio show, head coach Mark Pope shared the latest update on his two injured Wildcats who may be able to return in the postseason.
First, Williams has progressed enough from foot surgery that he’s now doing some light running and skill work, but he’s not doing anything at full speed yet.
“Positive news on both of those guys. Kam was actually doing a little bit of running yesterday,” said Pope. “Had a solid skill workout today, having minimal pain. Hasn’t done anything full-speed, but he’s making progress.”
Regarding Quaintance, he’s managed to reduce his knee swelling and is doing strength testing.
“JQ is also making some progress. We feel we’ve got the swelling a little bit under control,” said Pope. “He actually did strength testing today,” Pope continued. “He’s got a much more intensive ramp-up before he can step on the floor, but progress with both of those guys.”
Will either guy play again this season? With potentially just two weeks of season left between the SEC Tournament and the opening round of NCAA Tournament play, time is almost up.
I wouldn’t expect to see either player in the SEC Tournament, and the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament feels like a long shot unless they’re able to do some level of practicing next week.
Miracles do happen. Kentucky clearly needs a few for these guys to play again.
