Kenney's 14 K's help Washington blank Valparaiso 6-0

April 4, 2026

After a 1-9 start to the season, the Washington Huskies have officially made it back to .500 on the season following a 6-0 win over the Valparaiso Beacons on Friday night.

Shortstop Sam DeCarlo put coach Eddie Smith’s team ahead early with a run-scoring single as part of a 2-for-5 day where he also scored a run, before catcher Ethan Swidler added an RBI double in the second inning as the Huskies poured on 10 hits in the contest.

The Huskies took advantage of 5 Valparaiso errors on the day to score a trio of unearned runs in the fifth inning, before left fielder Jackson Hotchkiss added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, giving starter Noah Kenney plenty of breathing room on a dominant day.

He gave way to Gunnar Nichols, who was perfect through the last 2 innings with a trio of strikeouts, giving the UW pitching staff 17 punchouts in the contest.

Connor Lockwood took the loss for the Beacons and dropped to 3-4 on the year after getting through 5 innings and letting up 5 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts.

With the win, the Huskies improved to 15-15 on the season, and they’ll return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PT in search of a sweep of the Beacons.
