Former Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson joins Eagles staff for 2026

March 2, 2026

Jerrod Johnson is getting another chance to coach in 2026.

According to reports, the former Houston Texans quarterbacks coach will join the Philadelphia Eagles staff for next season as an offensive assistant. Johnson, who spent three seasons coaching under DeMeco Ryans and working with Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud, mutually agreed to part ways with the franchise last month.

Johnson, who previously worked under Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni as an offensive quality-control coach for the Indianapolis Colts, was a finalist for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator this offseason before the team hired Sean Mannion. He’s also interviewed for multiple offensive coordinator jobs over the past three seasons, including the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals this cycle.

Johnson, 37, has coached Stroud since he was in high school at the Elite 11 competition. The two remained close while Stroud attended Ohio State and reunited in Houston following his selection No. 2 overall in 2023. Over the past three seasons, Johnson has helped Stroud earn a Pro Bowl selection while guiding the offense to three playoff appearances.

He was also influential in helping Stroud earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2023.

“Jerrod has done a great job this year,” Ryans said earlier this season. “I’ve definitely seen growth in him as a coach and how he’s done a better job of working with the quarterbacks. He’s given those guys a lot of pointers, a lot of tips, especially from him being a guy who played the position.”

Given his background with Sirrinai, Johnson should have an impact on helping Houston native Jalen Hurts get back to his 2024 form, along with adding in value helping out with Saquon Barkley.
