Leeds are currently on a brilliant of just three defeats in 15 Premier League matches – what do you think are the key factors behind that huge uplift?
At half time at the Etihad we changed our formation to 3-5-2 and since then we have used variants of that including 3-4-2-1 (with two 10s). That has posed different questions to our opponents and also played to the strengths of our players.
With that run in the bank, Leeds sit 6 points from safety. Is there a huge belief at Elland Road that you can stay up?
It’s always a bit tricky with any fan group as long-suffering as ours to talk about a ‘huge belief’. But given our form and our run-in there is a lot of optimism.
Alongside Regis Le Bris and Scott Parker, Daniel Farke was one of the favourites to be sacked at the season. What has he done to build the trust of Leeds’ fans at this level after previously being seen as no more than a Championship level manager with Norwich?
Farke was close to being sacked when Leeds lost 6 in 7 games. But since changing the formation, he has shown his adaptability and tactical skill at Premier League level.
Leeds have changed goalkeepers multiple times this season, with Karl Darlow currently being chosen ahead of summer signing Lucas Perri. What was the key reason behind the latest switch?
Perri was injured for the first switch and dropped for the second. Perri had the lowest save % in the Premier League and second-worst distribution %.
Darlow has been solid and has a great connection with the other Welsh players.
Now we’re over halfway into the season, which Leeds players have stood out most?
Anton Stach has been the signing of the season. He is a brilliant player who is good at everything and his free kicks are incredible.
Ampadu is vastly underrated. Gudmundsson is an outstanding left back but needs to add attacking output to his game.
On the other hand, which players have struggled to make an impact?
Lucas Perri – the biggest disappointment of the season. Had we bought Roefs we’d be where Sunderland are. The goalkeeper position is really THAT pivotal.
If you were Regis Le Bris, what would you do to exploit Leeds’ weaknesses?
Pass fast. Leeds don’t have many weaknesses and only Arsenal haven’t struggled against us. Man City could only scrape a win. But we will attack Sunderland so you can exploit that mentality by breaking fast.
How do you think Farke will approach the match tactically at Elland Road?
Much the same as other games, but I think there will be a little more emphasis on possession and he will try and set us up to counter the counter attack – that means when in attacking positions be ready to press and then transition when we lose the ball.
Are any players missing and what would your starting XI be?
Okafor is out, everyone else should be ready.
Darlow, Gudmundsson, Bogle, Rodon, Bijol, Struijk, Ampadu, Gruev, Stach, Aaronson, DCL.
The two sides drew 1-1 back in December – what is your score prediction for this time around?
3-1 Leeds. Sorry but this is an absolute must-win for us and under the lights at Elland Road – as you know – is a very difficult place to come. I was there for Rothwell to Struijk x2.
You guys were brilliant that night, but we were on a mission and for us – we have to make the most of this game – but if it were 1-1 or 2-2 that wouldn’t surprise me either.
You guys have had a magical season – bought well. You’re a proper club with a proper fan base and aside from tomorrow I wish you well. The Premier League is just better with Sunderland and Leeds in it and competing.
