It started out like any other game in the course of an NBA season for the Boston Celtics. But by the end of the night, star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum had made history, tying the franchise scoring record set by Hall of Fame Boston small forward Larry Bird before the St. Louis native was even born.
The game in question was played on April 30, 2021, in the wake of the pandemic season in a tilt against the San Antonio Spurs on Boston’s home court of TD Garden. It was a performance for the ages, the Duke alum playing like he had been touched by the basketball gods themselves as he carved up the Spurs’ defense like a hot knife through butter.
The folks behind the official “Boston Celtics” YouTube channel put together a clip of the big game for us to watch later. Check it out below!
