Bayern Munich News: Alexander Nübel wants return, but could have contract terminated

April 3, 2026

Report: Nübel wants return, Bayern might want to terminate contract (Kicker via Tz)

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has seemingly been on loan forever.

After a successful stint with AS Monaco, Nübel landed at VfB Stuttgart, where he has performed well. Now, though, rumors are emerging that Nübel wants a return to Bavaria to compete for a starting job — if Manuel Neuer retires.

However, Bayern Munich might not actually want him back:

According to information from Kicker, this stance has since changed. He reportedly wants to face the competition from the much younger Jonas Urbig in Munich – and, should Neuer retire in the summer, fight for the position of FCB’s first-choice goalkeeper. An understandable move.

The specialist magazine Kicker has now revealed surprising information from Säbener Straße regarding the Nübel situation: Apparently, there are “isolated considerations” to terminate Nübel’s contract prematurely. In this case, the club would not only forgo a transfer fee but would also likely have to pay the three-time international “a substantial double-digit million euro sum as a kind of severance payment.”

Should such considerations actually exist among the FC Bayern management and even be implemented, the “Nübel chapter” at the record champions would end with a considerable loss.

The Bavarians will have some tough decisions to make, but nothing will be decided until Neuer informs the club whether or not he is coming back for the 2026/27 campaign. Right now, that all seems up in the air.

United could make move for Gray (ESPN)

With every spring comes a ton of rumors linking Manchester United to just about anyone with a pulse — this one has the Red Devils eyeing Tottenham Hotspur youngster Archie Gray:

Manchester United hold an interest in versatile Tottenham defender Archie Gray, who can play across the defense or in midfield, according to TEAMtalk. United will face plenty of competition for the 20-year-old’s signature, though, as Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa are also interested. All four clubs are expected to attempt a move if Spurs are relegated from the Premier League, and if that does happen, a deal could be completed for around £50 million.

Juve keeping tabs on Rüdiger (Tuttosport’s Nico Schira)

Juventus could be interested in Real Madrid center-back and Germany international Antonio Rüdiger:

Full speed ahead. Calmly and without getting carried away by dangerous flights of fancy, given the formidable and intense competition for the top German player. Even more so if he decides to leave Madrid this summer on a free transfer. Juventus, however, is still keeping an eye on Antonio Rudiger , who would be—especially in the current declining Italian football—a major coup to raise the level and competitiveness of the Bianconeri, now accustomed to finishing fourth as their seasonal objective.

Napoli to make play for Goretzka (Corriere dello Sport via ESPN)

Napoli has become the latest club to throw its hat in the ring for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka:

Napoli want to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka as a free agent in the summer but face competition from Juventus, Internazionale, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.

Goretzka had been building up some really positive momentum before the international break, where he turned in two really abysmal performances for Germany. Did those showings hurt his marketability?

Kolo Muani for David swap? (Gazzetta dello Sport via ESPN)

We all love a good swap deal, so how about this one — Paris Saint-Germain sending Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus for Jonathan David:

Paris Saint-Germain could swap Tottenham loanee Randal Kolo Muani for Juventus striker Jonathan David.

Villa, Roma among teams eyeing Brandt (Tuttosport’s Nicolo Schira)

Borussia Dortmund and Julian Brandt will part ways after the season and now Aston Villa, AS Roma, and Fenerbahçe SK could all be interested in the versatile German:

AstonVilla, #ASRoma and #Fenerbahçe are among the clubs interested in Julian #Brandt as a free agent from July. #transfers.
