The Yobe State government has shut down three major markets over fear of potential terrorist attack.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the government directed that the markets in Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi all in Gujba Local Government Area be shut with immediate effect.
He assured the decision was taken for “operational reasons” to enable security forces to carry out targeted engagements to curb insurgency.
Brig.-Gen. Abdulsalam also acknowledged the impact of the closure of livelihood of citizens. He urged the public to cooperate with security agencies to bring lasting peace in the region.
The Special Adviser assured that the markets would be reopened in the coming days once security objectives have been achieved
