The Senate has postponed its scheduled zonal public hearing on constitutional amendments for the North-West region in honor of the late elder statesman and business mogul Aminu Dantata, who passed away on Friday at the age of 94.
Dantata was laid to rest in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday at the Baqiyya cemetery.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced that the date amendment followed consultations with stakeholders in the North-West zone. He further revealed a new date will be communicated soon.
Despite rescheduling the North-West hearing, the Senate will proceed with the nationwide Zonal Public Hearings on constitutional amendment proposals slated for July 4 and 5.
The hearings in the five other geopolitical zones will take place concurrently.
