Premier League releases statement on controversial Leeds goal in 2-2 draw with Chelsea

February 11, 2026

The Premier League published a terse statement on Tuesday night, in which they explained why Leeds United’s second goal was allowed to stand, as they held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw.

The goal was not cancelled despite protests about a Jayden Bogle handball in the build-up.

Chelsea took a two-goal lead in the match, thanks to goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer.

Leeds pulled one back through a penalty from Lukas Nmecha, before Noah Okafor levelled from close range with 17 minutes left.

A statement from the Premier League Match Centre on X, read: “The referee’s call of goal to Leeds United was checked and confirmed by VAR – with there deemed to be no handball offence by Bogle in the build-up.”
