Peter Rufai: Super Eagles mourns ex-Nigerian goalkeeper

The national football team of Nigeria, the Super Eagles, has mourned former Nigeria international Peter Rufai after the ex-goalkeeper passed away.

On Thursday, DAILY POST reported that Rufai died following a prolonged illness.

Rufai, who is fondly called Dodo Mayana, was 61 years old.

Reacting, the Super Eagles, in a post on X, insisted that Rufai’s legacy will remain forever.

“Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana,” Super Eagles tweeted.

“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai.”

Rufai won the 1994 AFCON with Nigeria during his playing days.

He also played for clubs in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and the Netherlands during his professional football career.

His death comes a few hours after Liverpool attacker, Diogo Jota, and his brother, André Silva, died in a car accident in Spain.
