The Niger State of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has warned that if the State Government pays December salaries of primary school teachers in the state on percentage, it would be left with no option but to direct them to sit at home until their demands are met.

The NUT state chairman, Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed gave the directive in Minna while addressing Newsmen on the outcome of their council meeting.

DAILY POST gathered that primary school teachers in the state have not been paid 100 percent of their emoluments for five months

But Mohammed warned the state government that primary school teachers will no longer collect salaries on percentage which he said is against the labour law.

He said, ” there is nọ clause in the labour law that says salaries should be paid on percentage by the government at all levels due to economic crisis”.

Decrying the development, Mohammed explained that primary school teachers in the state are presently suffering as a result of the non-payment of their complete salaries.

” For the past five months, primary school teachers in Niger State have been receiving their salaries on percentage. This development has affected them negatively and thereby making life difficult for them to cater for the needs of their family,” he insisted.

The state NUT Chairman maintained that if there is no positive response from the state govẹrnment by the end of December on the issue, primary school teachers would be left with no choice but to sit at home until their demands are met.
