The Lagos State Government has cleared beggars and other individuals allegedly constituting a public nuisance along the Ketu-Alapere corridor as part of its continuous environmental sanitation and urban renewal campaign.
The operation, spearheaded by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, was confirmed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (@LAGESCOfficial) today commenced a clearance operation at Ketu-Alapere, removing beggars and other individuals constituting nuisance along the road median,” Wahab wrote.
He disclosed that all those apprehended during the exercise would be properly profiled and handed over to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
Wahab also shared a video clip showing LAGESC officials evacuating individuals from the busy corridor, which serves as a major link between the Lagos Mainland and key transport routes to the Island.
According to the commissioner, the operation forms part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance public order, ensure free vehicular movement, and maintain the aesthetic appeal of public spaces across the state.
“Every part of Lagos must reflect the standard of a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos,” Wahab stated.
