Kano Consumers Protection Council allegedly sacks 100 auxiliary staff

The Kano State Consumers Protection Council, have sacked 100 Auxiliary Staff of the Agency for alleged disloyalty.

However, the staff said they were sacked by the new management of the agency as scapegoats following a tussle between the management and the former head of the council.

Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had in April publicly unveiled 100 volunteers, mostly degree holders as support staff to the council with 10, 000 monthly stipend.

The new Chairman of the Council, General Idris Bello Dambazau (retd) who took over from Bappa Baba Dan’Agundi, Managing Director, Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) as substantive chairman in April was alleged to have fired the volunteers.

Consequently, the 100 volunteers petitioned the state governor to investigate the activities of the Council regarding violations of enabling laws that established the Council.

The petition, obtained by DAILY POST and signed by Hayat A Yusuf and Usman Rabiu Muhammad, chairman and secretary respectively explained that the new leader of the council stopped their monthly stipend 3 months ago.

The volunteers said “we were part of the success story of the council, illicit drug depots were discovered and activities of drug barons brought to a standstill by us”

”We are the foot soldiers, we did our best as patriots to rid the state of unwholesome drugs. We spent 8 months before we were unveiled to the public with a 10K monthly stipend.

The volunteers revealed that “Sec 16, 17, subsections 1, 2, and 3 of the enabling law that established the Council recognized the volunteers. ”

Reacting to the volunteers’ claim, Malam Musbahu Hassan, the Information Officer to the Council said no one was fired.

Musbahu said, “We have not sacked anyone except those who stopped coming to the office, and as I speak with you, we have over 50 of the volunteers still with us, and we have increased their stipends from 10k to N30k
