The Federal Government has deployed additional troops to Zamfara State to intensify ongoing operations against banditry.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, disclosed this during an All Progressives Congress, APC stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, where he said security operatives had been directed to take decisive action against armed groups across the state.
According to him, fresh operational instructions have been issued to troops to respond swiftly to security threats in affected communities.
Matawalle also stated that efforts by the Federal Government to collaborate with the Zamfara State government on security had not yielded the expected response, alleging that previous attempts at partnership were ignored.
He said the deployment of additional personnel is part of broader measures aimed at strengthening military operations in forests and other flashpoints.
Speaking on infrastructure, the minister clarified that the Funtua–Gusau–Talata Mafara–Sokoto road under construction is a Federal project, amid claims of attempted political credit-taking.
He also raised concerns about the utilisation of federal allocations to local government areas in the state, urging residents to scrutinise how funds are spent.
The meeting was attended by APC stakeholders and supporters under tight security. Officials said the deployment of more troops is expected to reinforce ongoing operations against bandit groups in the coming days.
