Lawmaker representing Okpokwu State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Agom Anthony has said he is not a traitor in response to accusations of betrayal against him by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.

Moro had claimed that Agom was ungrateful and had betrayed him while addressing members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.

Agom said the clarification became necessary for the public to know how the whole political impasse between himself and Sen Moro started and to reaffirm his commitment to Governor. Hyacinth Alia.

Agom, in a statement on Friday, expressed disappointment over the allegations, saying, “I am not ungrateful or a betrayal. My loyalty lies with the people and the vision of Governor of Benue State Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.”

He noted that, as a two-time member of the Benue State House of Assembly, he has compared notes on realities of governance, and that his decision to align with the governor’s policies and programmes are rooted in a desire to serve his constituents effectively, rather than personal ambition or disloyalty.

Agom said Senator Moro who is his political mentor advised him from day one to align with His Excellency, Fr Hyacinth Alia in order to drive home more trappings of government for his people and he has been steadfast in obeying this fatherly order.

He said his actions have always been guided by the principles of integrity and service.

“I have always prioritized the needs of our people over political rivalries” he stated.

“It is disheartening to be labeled betrayal and ungrateful when my focus has been on fostering unity, progress and sticking to our initial arrangement of supporting the Benue State Governor.”

He said he is not aware why the sudden twist of events on the initial directives he has received from the Senator in 2023 on the need to support the State Government under the able leadership of Governor Alia.

Agom assured his people and the public that he remains steadfast in his commitment to support Governor Alia.

He urged his supporters and the public to remain focused on the collective goals of advancing Benue State development, welfare of workers and prosperity for all under the sterling leadership of Governor Alia.
