Aston Villa manager, Steven Gerrard, has revealed how he set up his team to frustrate Liverpool on Saturday.
Mohamed Salah’s second-half penalty settled the game at Anfield after the Egyptian was fouled by Tyrone Mings.
Gerrard, who was making a return to his former club, admits they wanted to stay in the game for as long as possible before they “throw things at them”.
He said after the game: “The plan was to stay in the game for as long as we could.
“The idea was to get to 60 or 70 minutes and then throw things at them when the crowd got nervous and it opened up.
“The penalty changed that. I thought we were unfortunate.”
