A Rivers State Family Court in Port Harcourt has scheduled November 27, 2025, for ruling on the bail application of Kingsley Nnanna-Obilor, who is standing trial for allegedly defiling his three-year-old daughter.
Nnanna-Obilor, who pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge, applied for bail through his counsel on grounds of ill health and other related circumstances.
However, the Chief Prosecution Counsel from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, Precious Ordu, opposed the application, citing the gravity of the offence and alleged threats to her client’s life following the suspect’s arrest and detention.
The decision to fix a date for ruling followed the testimony of the accused’s wife, who is also the mother of the victim, affirming in court that her husband committed the offence.
After hearing arguments from both parties on Thursday, the presiding judge, Justice Ben Whyte, adjourned the case to November 27, 2025, for ruling on the bail application and continuation of the trial.
Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, the Director of the Good Samaritan Foundation for Social Welfare, Eseogenen Aboze, said the organization was alerted to the incident and took swift action to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
Aboze, who also serves as Child and Gender Officer with Civil Society Organizations, urged the National Assembly to “expedite the passage of pending bills proposing stricter penalties for defilement and rape, including the death penalty, to deter future offenders.”
