Court stops PDP convention over Lamido’s exclusion

November 14, 2025

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop its national convention scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Ibadan.

Justice Peter Lifu ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must not supervise, monitor or recognise any convention held without including former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido as a contestant.

The judge said evidence showed Lamido was unjustly denied the opportunity to obtain a nomination form for the National Chairmanship race, which goes against the PDP Constitution and its regulations.

The court added that the PDP is required to give its members a fair chance to pursue their ambitions.

Justice Lifu also ordered the party to pause the convention so Lamido can obtain the nomination form, mobilise his supporters, and conduct his campaign.
