CAF reveals plans to expand AFCON to 28 teams

The Confederation of African, CAF, has revealed plans to expand the Africa Cup of Nations to 28 countries.

According to CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, the move is aimed at increasing competitiveness and giving more nations the opportunity to shine on the continental stage.

24 countries are currently eligible to participate in Africa’s soccer showpiece event.

The expanded tournament will also hold every four years instead of the previous two.

Motsepe believes the four years will allow more nations to compete at the highest level, showcase their talent, and contribute to the growth of African football.

It will also allow countries prepare adequately, improve their squads, and build competitive consistency.
