The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has stated that none of its members defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC in the state.
This is as the party urged its members in Osun State and members of the public to discountenance the rumours that some members of the party have been defecting to the side of the coalition.
The party in a statement by Kola Olabisi, its Director of Media and Information on Thursday in Osogbo described individuals behind the misinformation as doing so in order to sell falsehoods to the unsuspecting members of the public.
Olabisi in the statement also claimed that APC in Osun State is solid, impenetrable and intact to the extent that the leading opposition party in the state has been harvesting the members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, almost on daily basis.
He said, “It is only the wishful thinking of the peddlers of the defection rumour which amounted to the willful insulting of the sensibility of our esteemed and dedicated members and supporters who have been giving their all for the smooth running of the party at all its levels in the state.
“Our members are deep thinkers who would not see any plausible or justifiable reason to dump a thriving party for an assemblage of visibly frustrated and spent political figures who are men of yesterday having an ax to grind with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose Renewed Hope Agenda programmes have been turning the country around for the past two years of his assumption of office.
“It would be an illusion of grandeur for anyone to think or equate both the suspended and expelled former members of the APC who were found guilty of anti-party activities about two years ago as the current members of our party.
“The fact of the development is that those who have been identifying with the ADC were either the expended or expelled former members of the party who had since been shown the way out of our party in the state.
“Let no one be deceived that the members of the APC in Osun State have been trooping into the ADC as no such development has ever taken place or being contemplated by any of our forward-looking members who can not afford to leave certainty for uncertainty.”
Olabisi also clarified that the ADC interim Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, was no longer an APC chieftain as he has been expelled from the party since 2024.
“Come to think of it, it is like someone addressing the former state Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the Interim National Secretary of the ADC, a chieftain of the APC who has just defected into the ADC when the fact of the case is that the former Minister of Interior had been expelled from the APC over one year ago and he remains expelled to date.
“It is expedient for those who are dishing out the falsehoods about the defection to wake up from their hallucinations and feed the members of the public authentic information as anything otherwise could be counterproductive to the image of their new coalition and ultimately resort to integrity deficit on the part of the affected individuals.
“The kernel of our message is that it is not true that our party is losing members to the ADC. The true position of the development is that we keep on harvesting willing members of the PDP and some of the suspended APC who have genuinely shown penitence into our fold and it is still counting in droves.
“Some of the dismissed party-less followers of Aregbesola went into a frenzy with the announcement of their principal as the Interim National Secretary of the ADC which could not in anyway be equated with the fact that the APC members have been trooping to the new coalition party,” he concluded.
DAILY POST reported on Wednesday, that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state dismissed claims that Governor Ademola Adeleke is involved in any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, affirmed that Governor Adeleke remains fully committed to PDP and is not part of any coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The ADC coalition was established recently by some political bigwigs in a bid to upstage President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections in 2027.
Former Senate President, David Mark and former Osun Governor and immediate past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola are the Interim Chairman and Secretary of the ADC respectively.
Other members of the coalition include, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi, Uche Seconds, Dino Melaye and others.
