The Benue government has signed a concession agreement with Rexzodeneh Group Limited (RGL) to establish a food city complex in the state.
The complex, which is the first of its kind, would first be built in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state and would be extended to Vandeikya and later to other local governments of the state.
Speaking during the project agreement signing, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in Benue, Prof Moses Ogbaji, who signed on behalf of the state government, described the project as worthy and expressed the believe that Benue people will benefit from it.
Prof. Ogbaji, who urged the contractors to immediately swing into action, cautioned that the state government would not hesitate to terminate the project and sanction the contractors if they fail to deliver.
While welcoming the team to the state agricultural development programme, Ogbaji said the project is one of the dividends of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s diplomatic shopping.
He said: “This is a worthy project and as we sign it today, it’s my earnest belief that we will swing into action immediately and the ministry and the citizens of the state will benefit from the programme.”
The Executive Secretary, Benue Investment Promotion Agency (BENIPA) Johnpaul Kpenkaan, said the state government has carried out all necessary due diligence on the genuineness of the company handling the Benue Food City project and expect full execution.
According to him, the Alia administration that is committed to development has been working the talk, emphasising that “the project is the first Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement the government would be signing with the private sector and by this activity today, Benue would be the first to activate the National Food City Complex in the country.”
