Institute to document abandoned projects

December 13, 2021

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), has disclosed plans to embark on documentation of building projects that have not been completed across the country.

The President of CIPMN, Dr. Victoria Okoronkwo, during a press briefing to mark the institute’s first annual general meeting stated that the survey was to avail the country of the number of projects not completed and reasons behind their abandonment.

She said the inventory to be taken would cut across projects at various levels which might be substandard, abandoned, collapsed, existing projects without qualified certified or professional project managers.

“This is to either ascertain the degree of either commitment or negligence of project owner, which in turn will assist policy makers in turning out better project delivery related policies. This independent exercise shall be undertaken by our institution without relying on the existing reports by either the Government or other corporate as well as stamp our authority on any figure we shall be putting out to the general public’s information.”

While stating that the era of impunity in project management practices is phasing out, she noted that it would highlight the principal cause of the problems and to concentrate energies on solutions.

She added that the deliberate refusal to accord project managers a place in the country has worsened how projects are handled but called on public and private institutions to engage CIPMN members to monitor their projects for efficient delivery.
