SaharaReporters has uncovered critical details about the Malian immigrants responsible for the devastating explosion in Ibadan. The team leader, Sawane Youssouf, heads a mining operation in Oke-Ogun, Oyo State, with startling revelations from Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents.
According to the obtained CAC document, Youssouf incorporated the mining company SDYB International Company Nigeria Limited in 2004, claiming Nigerian nationality. However, further investigation reveals the company is not authorized for mining in Oyo State.
The directors, including Youssouf and a Nigerian, Bakare Hakeem Oladimeji, along with two other Malians, lacked valid licenses listed by the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. The company’s inactive status raises concerns.
The explosive materials were stockpiled for years near the Oyo State Government Secretariat, leading to a tragic incident, and Sawane Youssouf allegedly utilized Nigerian security operatives for his mining activities without accountability.
As the death toll rises to five, questions arise about government negligence and accountability. Governor Seyi Makinde’s special adviser on security matters, Fatai Owoseni, assures ongoing investigations for justice.
