Don’t Take Life You Didn’t Create — Guitarist Fiokee Reacts As Sister’s Killer Gets Death Sentence

May 23, 2026

Nigerian guitarist, Ifiok Effanga, widely known as Fiokee, has reacted to the judgment of an Akwa Ibom State High Court, which sentenced the killer of his sister, Emem Effanga, to death.

The court, presided over by Hon. Justice Ekpo Ntekim, found the convict, Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, guilty of a two-count charge of murder and stealing. Nelson was sentenced to death by hanging or lethal injection for the killing of Emem, who was an Uyo-based makeup artist.

Reacting to the judgment via a social media post, Fiokee expressed gratitude that accountability had been served after a prolonged legal process.

“We’ve been on this case since March last year. Thank God my sister has finally gotten ‘JUSTICE’. My message to everyone out there, don’t take life that you didn’t create,” the musician stated.

The prosecution established that the incident occurred on February 6, 2025, when the convict visited the deceased at her residence on Aka Road, Uyo. A dispute ensued over a mobile phone, during which Nelson assaulted and strangled the victim before fleeing the scene with the device.

Following an investigation and tracking by law enforcement, the convict was apprehended on February 8, 2025, at a church premises along Nsikak Eduok Avenue in Uyo, where he subsequently confessed to the crime during interrogation.

In the final ruling, Justice Ntekim held that the evidence presented conclusively proved the charges against the defendant, noting that the penalty for the theft component was subsumed under the capital sentence for murder.
