In the latest twist in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal saga, the disgraced music mogul has one primary grievance about his life behind bars: the food. Outside a pre-trial hearing on Thursday, his defense attorney, Marc Agnifilo, revealed to reporters that Diddy’s biggest struggle in jail is with the menu at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), where he has been held since mid-September.
“I think the food’s probably the roughest part of it,” Agnifilo shared with reporters after the hearing, as quoted by People. This complaint overshadowed the weight of the serious charges Diddy faces, which include sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. Despite the allegations and the notorious conditions of the Brooklyn jail, Diddy’s discomfort seems to lie mainly in the unsatisfactory meals served at the facility.
According to previous reports, MDC inmates start their day with a 6 a.m. breakfast consisting of cereal, fruit, and occasionally cake, with coffee available only on weekends. Lunch, served at 11 a.m., offers dishes such as hamburgers, tacos, or baked fish, while dinner at 4 p.m. could include chicken fajitas, roast beef, or “heart-healthy” tofu or legumes. While there are commissary options available for purchase, it seems the choices haven’t met Diddy’s standards.
Diddy, once known for his lavish lifestyle, has now found himself in a facility infamous for its harsh conditions. The Brooklyn detention center has long been criticized for overcrowding and unsanitary conditions. Thursday’s hearing aimed to explore the possibility of securing Diddy’s release from the MDC, but it was unsuccessful, meaning he will continue to remain behind bars, enduring the facility’s food and environment until his trial in May 2025.
The Grammy-winning rapper’s legal troubles escalated after a grand jury indicted him on charges of running a sex trafficking ring. Prosecutors accuse him of using coercion, threats, and violence to force women into participating in drug-fueled parties that allegedly lasted for days. The case gained significant attention in May after CNN released security footage showing Diddy brutally assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.
Diddy’s legal team has been working hard to fight the case, going as far as to accuse federal authorities of orchestrating a smear campaign against him. His attorneys claim that the Department of Homeland Security, the agency responsible for raiding his homes and discovering various items of evidence, leaked damaging information to CNN, including the security footage. The defense described these actions as “underhanded tactics” in a Wednesday filing, accusing the government of misconduct.
However, U.S. attorney Damian Williams swiftly dismissed these claims, calling them “absurd.” During Thursday’s hearing, prosecutor Emily Johnson reiterated that the defense was merely trying to prevent damaging evidence from being included in the trial. The prosecution also raised the possibility of adding new charges, revealing that investigators had seized over 100 electronic devices from Diddy’s residences and were still reviewing the vast amounts of data. Johnson confirmed that the investigation was ongoing, leaving open the likelihood of an expanded indictment.
The trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025, with Diddy remaining in custody until then. With bail denied once again, he will have to make do with the jail’s menu for the foreseeable future, as his legal battle continues to unfold.
