In a rare public appearance, Christopher Brosnan, the estranged son of Hollywood star Pierce Brosnan, was photographed exiting a Waitrose grocery store in London on Friday. This sighting comes nearly 20 years after the famous actor cut ties with his son due to his struggle with addiction.
Christopher, now 51, who previously worked as an assistant director on several of his father’s notable films including “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997), “The World Is Not Enough” (1999), and “Robinson Crusoe” (1997), appeared solemn as he ran his errand alone. Dressed in a red hoodie under an olive green puffer vest, paired with navy blue joggers and gray Converse sneakers, Christopher’s casual outfit was complemented by a backward navy blue flat cap that barely contained his shaggy brown hair.
Holding a phone in one hand and a reusable Waitrose bag in the other, Christopher’s subdued demeanor reflected the challenging journey he has faced over the years. Born to Pierce’s first wife, Cassandra Harris, and her ex-husband Dermot Harris, Christopher and his late sister Charlotte were adopted by Pierce after Dermot’s death in 1986. Tragically, Cassandra succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1991, leaving Pierce to raise their blended family.
The Irish actor, renowned for his portrayal of James Bond, remarried in 2001 to Keely Shaye Brosnan. Together, they have two sons, Dylan (27) and Paris (23). Despite the addition of new family members, the relationship between Pierce and Christopher became strained due to Christopher’s ongoing battle with addiction, leading to legal troubles and personal setbacks.
In a candid 2005 interview with Playboy magazine, Pierce Brosnan spoke of the heartache his son’s addiction had caused. “Christopher is still very lost. Shockingly so. I know where he is, but he’s having a hard life,” Pierce shared. “I can only have strong faith and believe he will recover. He has tested everybody in this family but none more so than himself. He knows how to get out. He doesn’t want to.”
Pierce admitted the situation forced him to make a painful decision. “You never completely cut them off, but I have cut Christopher off. I had to say, ‘Go. Get busy living, or get busy dying.’ He has my prayers.”
Despite their estrangement, Pierce acknowledged Christopher in a 2022 Father’s Day Instagram post, expressing his enduring love for all his sons, including Christopher. “My love forever to you dear sons, Paris, Dylan, Sean, and Christopher,” he wrote, alongside a photo with his other three sons. “Thank you deeply for your love ❤️ on this Father’s Day.”
