Hollywood multi-hyphenate Jamie Foxx, 56, has broken his silence on the medical emergency that left fans and media in a state of speculation last year. In a candid conversation captured in downtown Phoenix, Foxx disclosed the series of events leading to his hospitalization on April 11, 2023.
Recounting the day of the incident, Foxx shared that he experienced a severe headache and requested Advil from a friend. “I was gone for 20 days,” he stated, snapping his fingers to illustrate the abruptness of his condition. Foxx admitted to having no recollection of the events that transpired during that period.
The actor was in Atlanta when he fell ill. He credited his swift medical attention to his sister, Deidra Dixon, and daughter, Corinne Foxx, who took him to the first doctor. “Next doctor said, ‘[There’s] something going on up there,'” Foxx continued, gesturing to his head but refrained from specifying the diagnosis on camera.
The day following his hospitalization, Corinne Foxx informed the public via social media that her father had “experienced a medical complication” and was on the path to recovery due to prompt medical intervention. Three weeks later, Jamie Foxx reassured fans with a message on his Instagram Story: “Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed 🙏🏿❤️🦊.”
Despite circulating rumors, Corinne updated the public that her father had been discharged from the hospital weeks prior and was even active, playing pickleball. In July, Jamie Foxx shared more about his ordeal through an emotional Instagram video, though he still withheld specific details about his condition. “I went through something I thought I would never, ever go through,” he revealed, emphasizing he was neither “blind” nor “paralyzed.”
Fighting back tears, Foxx explained his decision to keep his condition private, not wanting his fans to see him in a vulnerable state. He expressed profound gratitude towards his sister, daughter, God, and the medical professionals who treated him. He also commended his inner circle for maintaining confidentiality.
By August, Foxx reported feeling like himself again after enduring “an unexpected dark journey.” His return to health was evident when he was spotted filming “Back in Action” with co-star Cameron Diaz in Atlanta this past January.
The entertainment industry and Foxx’s fans continue to celebrate his recovery and resilience, looking forward to his upcoming projects with renewed anticipation.
